St. Mark's Nursery School is a Christian-based preschool in Harrisburg. It is enrolling for the 2025–2026 School Year. The approach is play-as-we-learn. The curriculum is based on PA Early Learning Standards for pre-K. Children come to a place where play is the work of the day.
The room has a meeting rug, shelves at child height, and open floor space so children can move between activities. Teachers plan around the PA Early Learning Standards. A two-year-old might fill a bucket with blocks; a four-year-old writes a name on a painting. Teachers notice and extend what your child is already trying.
Teachers hold a current plan for each class. The facility is secured, and the playground is fence-enclosed, so children have an outdoor place to run and dig. Teachers tell you what your child did and what they are working on next. Ask about hours, tuition, and the registration fee.
What a day looks like
A morning starts with a familiar hand-off and a teacher who greets your child by name. Coats go on hooks, bags get put away, and children find something to do while everyone arrives. For a new child, that first half hour is the hardest and the most important, so we keep it gentle and unhurried. Most children settle in within days with the same routine.
The middle of the day moves between child-led play and small-group learning. Children build, paint, sort, and listen to stories. Teachers sit down with a few children at a time to work on a skill. Then it is time to clean up, eat, rest, and go outside.
The afternoon is for quieter play, books, and going outside while the weather holds. Teachers help children find their coats and bags. At pickup, a teacher tells you one or two things your child did that day. You can ask how the rest of the day went.
How we work with families
New children spend the first weeks getting to know the room, the teachers, and the other children. Teachers help a child find a cubby for their things. A child joins play at their own pace. You can talk with teachers about how drop-off and the first days are going.

Complete enrollment and plan a first week that suits your child's routine. We will talk through the first drop-off before it happens.

What ages do you take?
Children from 2, 3, and 4/5 year-old classes.
Can we visit before deciding?
Yes. A tour lets you see the rooms, meet teachers, and ask your questions before you apply. Children are welcome on the tour, so they can see the space too.
What should my child bring on the first day?
Most families pack a spare set of clothes in a labelled bag, and something familiar from home for rest or comfort. Label coats, bags, and cups so they find their way back. If you are unsure what your child needs, ask us before the first day.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
Schedules depend on the age group and on what is open, so the best answer is the one we give you when you ask. Call or email and tell us your child's age and the days you need.
What if there is no place right now?
You can ask to be told when a place opens for your child's age. We will take your details and be in touch if something comes up.
